The Frenc h do know how to count. Their sole little hick up being the left over of previously common modulo 20 counting in "Quattrevins" (didn't check my spelling...). As a matter of fact Danish counting from 40 through 90 is all based on modulo 20. Like 50 being "halv-treds-sins-tyve" which litteraly translates "half-three-times-twenty" with half three being like German "Halb Drei" or 2.5. Now the Belgians have it somewhat more complicated with their version of French. Add to that those crazy Danes like the Germans mention the LSD ahead of the MSD. A big source of mistakes in German accounting and elsewhere. Rather than 35 the common mistake being to write 53 for thirty-five. In German that common mistake even has a special name, der Zahlendreher (digit rotater) Of course you find words in English picked up from everywhere later and it happens all the time. But not at such a massive basis like the French words directly adopted by English. Take "tradition", in French tradition and all those approx. 1,200 -tion words spelled in exactly the same way. Only 4 exceptions to that like explanation, translation and 2 more which go like explication, transduction and so on. Taro
