I don't mind people talking about credit expansion and contraction, as long as they don't pretend they are talking about something else. I think the main reason not to call credit expansion by its name -- credit expansion -- is that credit can expand and tighten from one period to the next without causing great excitement. Using a word like "deflation" gets a lot of attention because an outbreak of deflation would be a very big deal indeed, whereas a contraction of credit would draw more of a big yawn.
