I think stereotyping anything including politicians does not serve any purpose.
Sure it does. The very nature of politics ensures that it will attract the sort of people who crave power over others. The founders of the US made a valiant attempt to constrain such power lust through the adoption of a constitutional republic which delineated the extent of permissible government authority.
Unfortunately, such constraints have eroded to the point where nowadays almost anything goes in DC, depending on who's gang happens to be bigger at the moment. It's a sewer, awash with lobbyists and special interests grubbing for their piece of the action, all fueled by the massive amounts of tax dollars extorted from productive private citizens and businesses, to be then doled out to those pay sufficient homage to their political masters.
A minuscule number of pols are truly decent and try to do the right thing. A far larger number are some combination of incompetent, corrupt, egotistical (Kerry's a prime example of this), deluded with grandiose illusions of their own self importance, thoroughly addicted to the power and authority at their command, etc, etc. It's a rotten setup and will only get worse in the future, as the constitution has been emasculated and the inmates have gained control of the asylum.
Some pols are better than others and some worse, but as a (deserved) stereotype, politics, by its intrinsic nature, attracts the dregs and detritus of humanity.
