Don't be too hard on yourself. You would have had to seen Gates himself state those words in order to have known the whole truth. We are being fed so much BS disguised as fact these days it pretty hard to know what exactly is or is not the truth.

Hell, even Shepard Smith at Fox repeatedly stated that Gates said we weren't winning in Iraq. He even played a clip of Gates saying that - the clip was cut immediately after the key words were uttered - no context - no balance - Shep NEVER mentioned what actually Gates went on to say (Note: I have said before that Shep tilts left & even more so since the election).

Ya, it's that bad.
