I don't think the north Atlantic Treaty organization takes it's orders from the UN. But i will check. otherwise the Un has been no help since 1945. They have screwed up everything they ever touched. And they certainly been a success stopping nuclear weapons.

I checked the nato website and they were inded authorized by the UN to go into Afghanistan at the request of the the government of the country.
