Finally decided to try the new Parallels Beta that came out last week. This is mind boggling! In Compatability mode I've got a Windows Start and docking bar across the bottom and my Mac Dock on the right, all my Mac Desktop available and the Windows stuff runs like its a Mac window with Windows XP adornments - weird! Both the Mac and Windows completely fill my 23" Cinema screen!

I've also been running Visio on a Windows Remote Desktop on a machine in San Diego (I'm in Littleton, CO) at quite reasonable speed for a remoted desktop. It feels a little like my older PowerBook did when it was becoming disk-swap choked - slow but manageable. The Windows XP virtual machine on my local desktop runs damn fast.

I can drag-n-drop between Mac and Virtual PC, but not to the remoted desktop. I have to Copy-Paste between the Mac and the remote desktop. Drag-n-Drop doesn't seem to work with files-so I do file transferes through my iDisk that I can access on the Mac side in a finder window and on the remote side using IE web browsing to the iDisk URL.

This whole thing is really impressive!

I do network wiring diagrams in OmniGraffle, save them as Visio XML, send them to the remote desktop through iDisk, open them and they're near perfect. GIFs with transparency don't work right though so I fix them by sending the gif icons separately and putting them in with Visio. Fortunately, only one diagram had those.
