Implant Sciences Receives Product Order Thursday December 7, 11:20 am ET Implant Sciences Receives Order for 30 Explosive Detection Devices WAKEFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- Implant Sciences Corp., which makes products for both the national security and medical device markets, said Thursday it received an order for 30 of its handheld explosive detectors. ADVERTISEMENT The order was placed by an undisclosed customer in Asia for use in aviation security, the company said, and brings the number of its handheld detectors in use in Asia to 176. Anthony J. Armini, chief executive of Implant Sciences, said in a statement that the order "should bolster our second-quarter cash flows" because the units ordered are already built and in inventory. Armini also said that while demand for explosive detection equipment lagged in 2006, "our market research indicates a significant increase in the potential demand" for 2007. Implant Sciences makes and markets a proprietary technology called "Quantum Sniffer" to detect a wide range of explosives. The company also makes radioactive products to treat cancer.
