N.J. Gov. Corzine: Hillary Can't Win
Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 12:31 a.m. EST

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine has tossed some cold water on the hot talk about Hillary Clinton’s looming announcement of a 2008 White House bid, saying that the former first lady can’t win the election.

Corzine, a colleague of Clinton in the Senate until stepping down to run for governor this year, told talk radio host Don Imus about Hillary: "There are people who are disciplined and willing to listen to different sides of issues who are articulate – maybe not charismatic – but are diligent, and I think she’ll be that.

"If she were to be president, she’d do an outstanding job," Corzine continued. "I think she’s going to have a hard time getting elected.”

The issue of Clinton’s "electability” is often cited by Democrats who insist she can’t win the general election, the New York Post noted in reporting on Corzine’s remarks.

"Clinton, meanwhile, continued her phone-and-meeting tour as she inched closer to a White House run,” according to the Post.
