Wharfie, they got it wrong. They meant 2ppm, not %. There has not been a 2% per year increase in the rate of increase over the last five years. It has been a linear increase in that period. It even took a step down and maybe even has started to drop off, but the fluctuations are so large that it's not apparent.

You used numbers wrongly.

You are looking for a needle in a haystack with your 2.04 ppm increase this year. Note the year to year variation: Message 23081330

It takes longer than a year to see whether there is a trend change. Even 5 years is not enough to see the change in the gradient of the increase very well.

I think they made a mistake and they meant 2ppm, not 2%. That would make sense. It's amusing that you boast of being Mr Numerate, then make that mistake.

PS: It's annoying to write out a post, then lose it. That drives me nuts. I'd rather get another bout of global warming [or at least NZ warming].
