Hero may be the wrong term. Prior to the invasion, I inserted a few comments on the need for caution and restraint in some of my talks (about other subjects). I was booed, called a "Saddam lover", received the middle finger salute and had people walk out on me.

I didn't say anything negative about Bush at that time, although I thought he was playing it fast and loose with the intelligence.

I don't feel like a hero - more like a failure - I failed to stop a disaster in the making.

But I did learn how the Nazis came to power. I saw it in the faces of otherwise good and decent people; the irrational anger of a war frenzy. I'm saddened and still a little shell shocked by their reaction (this happened several times).
