If a greater civil war breaks out in Iraq I predict we will see twenties- Nixon territory, in other words. Even the Bush faithful will start to lose faith at that point. Not all of them, of course, but enough to tank the president. This will also happen if scandals are uncovered. If this president were a stock, you'd short him, since it doesn't take much to push an already weakened leader over the precipice of greater public disapproval. It's fascinating to watch. Watching Nixon implode was also interesting. My mom had NPR on all the time when Watergate was going on. My parents and their friends discussed it endlessly and it was really very interesting- even to me, a young teen. While the Chinese may think it is a curse to live in interesting times, on the positive side it is also...interesting.
