JCP, > Many Americans are SO fat and lazy that the prospect of walking a few blocks from where the bus would drop them or pick them up is a factor in their thinking.

How about the fact that where I live, it will take 2 hours to go by bus from home to work, but I can drive the same distance in about 15 minutes?

In urban environments like New York City, Chicago, and Tokyo, mass transit makes a lot of sense. Most people in Manhattan don't even own cars, or the ones that they do own are used for trips out of the city.

In suburban areas like Southern California, mass transit isn't as good of a fit. You really can't get around SoCal without a car. Everything is just too spread out.
