It's entirely possible that there was a large population in the Columbia River Basin that was completely wiped out by the Great Missoula Flood 10,000 years ago. It was so massive that all evidence was wiped out. Heck there's a boulder the size of a Mack Truck in the middle of the field down by McMinnville Oregon. That boulder came in on a cake of ice from Montana. There wouldn't be much left after a flood like that.

I think I agree that the true history of settlement of North America is unknown and unknowable. Kennewick Man is a tiny chink in that armor.
