Puget Energy plans solar power project
Mon Dec 4, 2006 2:47pm ET

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Puget Energy (PSD.N: Quote, Profile , Research) said on Monday it issued a request for proposal, or RFP, to develop a 500-kilowatt solar energy project, which would be the largest in the Pacific Northwest and double Washington state's solar power output.

The solar plant would be at subsidiary Puget Sound Energy's Wild Horse Wind Project in eastern Washington and could be generating electricity by late 2007, the utility said.

The 127-turbine Wild Horse Wind Project, together with the 83-turbine Hopkins Ridge Wind Project that was completed last year northeast of Walla Walla, produces enough electricity to power about 125,000 homes.

The Wild Horse solar project will have the capacity to power an additional 300 homes.
