"persistent changes in price levels -- what people call inflation and deflation"

I just wanna make sure I grok this: are you defining inflation and deflation as changes in price levels: price up=inflation, price down=deflation?

So if the price of my shares in company A go up, that's inflation, and if the price goes down, that's deflation?

Thanks
