Eco, One thing you failed to mention is that AMD and Intel use different materials and also different processes (APM vs. copy exact)...If one combination is superior over the other there could be differences affecting the variable cost structure...I don't think you can match fab to fab exactly(apples to oranges comparison).... PS: Also node differnces too (65nm vs. 45nm) one node might be easier or more difficult...others can explain this better...
