Preferably at least 300 feet above sea level.
One of the things I've noticed, after researching family history, is that living near the ocean is not conducive to accumulating wealth over time. At least, not your primary abode, nor your business unless you are engaged in shipping or fishing or the like.
I really love the ocean. I love the way it washes everything clean, and the sun bleaches everything clean, and the salt sterilizes everything clean. But ordinary surf and sun is one thing, a hurricane or a Nor'easter or a tsunami is something else entirely.
My own family's wealth was wiped out entirely a number of times due to hurricanes. The people who still live on the coast were wiped out by Katrina, once again, as I've mentioned before, but they were wiped out by Camille, and Audrey, and earlier hurricanes with no names.
I would add to your suggestion about not living near the ocean, that you also pick a temperate climate, and stay out of ghettos of any flavor. |
