That must have been exciting to have a teacher written about in an important national publication for being good. Some teachers use techniques they honed over years to achieve exceptional results. One wonders if any successful teach really is nutty, or just acts that way. I asked my childrens' kindergarten teacher how she controlled the kids. I asked her is she had "the voice". She said no, she had "the look". It was her technique and she maintained discipline uncommonly well.
