From WDC's preannouncement:
<<Western Digital said it expects to show sequential growth in the second quarter,
which is typically strong for computer concerns, in unit shipments, revenue and
profit. But the disk-drive maker said the gains would fall short of earlier plans.

The company shipped a record 6.3 million hard drives during the first quarter
ended this month, but significantly weaker pricing was "more than we could
offset" by changing its product mix and shipping higher volumes, Western Digital
said. The company added that its effort late in September to change its product
mix "did not fully materialize.">>

Note that next quarter is still strong compared to the weak third quarter. IOM is entering their strongest quarter of the year with unit shipments increasing on all fronts. IOM's new product mix should add significantly to their bottom line. Sales of notebook computers are expected to increase substantially in the 4th quarter and IOM stands to reap some of those rewards relative to its ship out of the notebook zip drive. Seagate has been dumping on the market, and understandably since they are losing market share to Quantum. IOM is not losing market share to anyone, in fact they are gaining on all fronts. You don't sell your lion because your dog got run over by a car. No, you love your lion more because he's all you've got left. Think about it. Alas, the market sometimes doesn't think, it only reacts!
