intel has good products for now anyway

And AMD has, as well. Which is the (only) reason Intel has more reasonable offerings nowadays than it had for the last couple years.

So far, the world looks fine.

However, wrt Intels offerings, they understand to make use of our limited perception of things; you know, this unidimensional, linear understanding of reality, in particular by the boys. You have a son and know what I mean, I guess. They made good use of it with Netburst, aka Megahurtz-Myth. AMD did not follow the blunder - and got burned badly. Well, that's history.

But now I see iNTel is already about to give birth to the next obnoxious creature. It will be called the multicore-myth in some years. But it will work again: You know, it's really the same unidimensional, linear thinking : Two brains are better than one, so four must be even better. Well, half of one working brain is well enough to find out this simply does not work for CPU-cores, but there is not so many with enough working grey matter to come this far. So it will work again.

This time AMD follows. Fred Weber left because he wanted to make better use of his time than to design bs arch. I understand him. But I do understand Hector and Dirk as well: If you have 15k mouths to feed, 15k families, and must show green ink in the books to stay in the business you better make what Intel makes the word believe is what it wants instead of making the better arch. Alpha is an example where this can easily end.

'nuff said. I do neither blame Intel for doing what it does, nor I do blame AMD for doing what it probably must do, nor the population for its restricted abilities. All I do is looking what goes on, making the most fun of it (which includes posting to you :)) and squeeze a buck or two out of it if i can.

I'd like to be closer to your place for the next few months. I like the mild winters in Texas better than the wet cold ones we have in Central Europe nowadays. Been in Singapore for quite a while - missed winters there.

Enjoy your evening. Always nice chatting with you.
