If Apple chooses to enable the Draft N features when the iTV media adapter ships in early 2007, there's no guarantee that future Draft N chips would have full backward compatibility with what they ship.

I think Apple's iTV product has been waiting on 802.11n for at least six months and maybe as long as a year. The product has been rumoured since the beginning of '06 but has remained curiously absent....and then in September they announced it without shipping it, which is definitely uncharacteristic of Apple.

Unfortunately, the infighting in standards bodies is absolutely killing the devolpment of new technologies. We'll have to see if their is eventually a backlash against the process or if the standards bodies figure out a way around the current impasses.
