Slacker Re: TI signals slowdown and>>

“While it is true that TI is losing share in WCDMA chipsets during the 4th quarter, it is equally true that it is almost impossible for Q to have a great quarter without TI participating.

Modoff’s point was that QCOM’s quarter is tracking well as Samsung’s & LG’s 3G (WCDMA??) sales are improving and “share shifts among handset vendors will likely favor phones with QCOM chips inside”.

Perhaps the 3G (3GSM / WCDMA) market is growing (only an “area of softness” for TXN customers) , **but** via QCOM’s customers (Samsung / LG/ Huawei) rather that TI’s customers (NOK, Sony/Ericy and NEC).

Per Dr Jha at Lehman>>>>>>>

New Christmas 3G Vodafone Handsets with QUALCOMM Chips

•77% of the handset models are 3G
•38% of the 3G models use QUALCOMM chips
•25% of the 3G handset models are HSDPA

•50% of the HSDPA models use QUALCOMM chips

LG KU800
LG L600V
Samsung ZV40
Samsung Z540V
Samsung Z560V
Samsung ZV50
Vodafone 710
Samsung Z400V

Dr Jha also mentioned that –

+ QUALCOMM enables vast majority of commercial HSDPA devices
.........34 HSDPA models commercially available using QCT (only 2, non-QCT)

+ to his knowledge all of Cingular’s 3G handsets use QCOM chipsets.
