Modoff’s point was that QCOM’s quarter is tracking well as Samsung’s & LG’s 3G (WCDMA??) sales are improving and “share shifts among handset vendors will likely favor phones with QCOM chips inside”.

Perhaps the 3G (3GSM / WCDMA) market is growing (only an “area of softness” for TXN customers) , **but** via QCOM’s customers (Samsung / LG/ Huawei) rather that TI’s customers (NOK, Sony/Ericy and NEC).

Yes, Qualcomm is going to gain share during the quarter, but Samsung and LG combined for something like 12% of WCDMA handsets during the 3rd quarter. How high do you think that is going to go? There is no chance it will hit your previous estimate of a mid-30% share for Q during this quarter.

A 5% share loss by TI wouldnt have shown up so strongly in their financials if the overall market was growing strongly. Unfortunately, TI's comments severely limit the chances of much upside to the 100 million unit consensus.
