I am long AMES and have made good money, but part of the story continues to bother me -- not competing with the big boys. AMES has Wal mart in 60 percent of its market (or more, I can't remember). My Ames store is about 3 miles away. WalMart is 25 miles away, but I shop WalMart most of the time because the prices are so much better. Ames is keeping inventory low and the stores look good and have a pretty good number of soft-goods shoppers, but the revenues for the chain are about flat and I wonder how long restructuring and improving EPS can go on. I want to believe the story, these are just my observations.
