SHORT SUSPENSION OF 48H FOR MINOR VIOLATIONS
As you probably have noticed warnings for less than grave insults and for OT in general have lead to a lot more bursts of OT recently. I'd like to go back to the original intent of the rule 'you MUST be courteous to others', 'no insults', and 'no OT'. To do that I propose short suspensions for all relatively minor insults (less than direct personal insults see below), and for all OT, including all moderating related posts. This allows skipping the warning process that lead to even more OT. It's a practical means to get the board permanently back to on topic discussion.
Penalty: Suspension is 48 hours. The penalty has to be serious enough for posters to stimulate self-moderation and not too serious because the violations mostly aren't either.
Process: Anyone can nominate a poster for insults, and OT(don't expect me to constantly read all posts for violations; don't expect me to be on line all the time). Even if it's a minor insult or a simple funny off topic post I'll suspend the poster. EDIT: Nominations are done per PM or mail. I'll post my mail address in the header.
Some process guidance: The definition of OT is pretty clear. The definition of what amounts to an insult is less clear. It's impossible to give an exact definition but I am giving a few examples of what an insult could be:
- 'You are a moron / idiot / troll / liar / etc..', 'fuck you', and 'Intel stooges, AMDroids, etc...' will still get you the usual two weeks penalty (or 4 weeks, or permanent) as per current rules. These type of insults like all big violations do not fall under this short suspension rule for lesser insults.
- 'That is a lie. Link please.' or 'That is a hypocritical remark because ...' are not insults. They refer to a single remark without any hint of being personal.
- Indirect insults are minor insults. Like recently:
'There is a saying that it is better to be silent and thought an idiot than to open one's mouth and remove any doubt. Perhaps you should heed that advice in this case'.
'Are his theories ever anything else [than half baked]? ;-)'
'What a complete load of imaginary twaddle you just made up there, all of it, do please keep taking the happy blue pills because the end results are highly amusing.'
'yet another difference is the lameness and obvious lack of intellectual capacity of those intelligentsia that do post here now' (OT + slightly insulting)
Discussion leading up to: 'so you're an idiot as much as Armin. No new news there either.'
- Not directly personal foul language like 'either provide arguments or STFU' etc...
How to off load OT to the OT thread here: Subject 53036
- If you want to prove in public that a person is an imposter, spammer, troll, or whatever do so on the OT thread. Of course you can also PM / mail me.
- If you want to discuss any OT do it on the OT thread.
- All text that normally would attract OT reactions please put it on the OT thread.
- You are permitted to put a single link per OT topic including a short completely non insulting title (no more than ten words starting with 'OT: ') on this board to transfer the OT discussion to the OT board right when it starts. Even then do not use any insults in the first post on the OT thread (the one that you link to from this moderated thread) or I'll treat the post containing the link as if it would contain all text from the post being linked to with a suspension as result. Any attempt to circumvent the off loading process as described here and I'll treat it as if it was posted on this thread.
- All non paying persons that can't access the OT board should either pay for that board, tell me via mail, or simply shut up.
- I'll off load any moderating related remarks to the OT thread in a similar way (or suspend myself).
50% threshold: Anything over 50% votes in favor of the new rule will get it implemented. I'm using 50% because it's a an evolution of current rules; to get them implemented as intended.
Recommendations: I'm using recommendations because it's fast, easy, and transparent. Vote please using the next two posts (not this one).
