Remedy(R) Corporation Launches Java Version of Flashboards(R)
Company's First Java Client Enables IS Managers to Manage Service Levels Proactively from Anywhere at Anytime
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Remedy Corporation (Nasdaq:RMDY) today announced version 2.0 of Flashboards, Remedy's unique application for managing service levels for internal perations. The new Java(TM) client in Flashboards 2.0 gives managers detailed insight on performance and trends of their systems, enabling proactive management from anywhere at anytime. The Java client offers platform independence for immediate deployment across mixed platforms with the use of supported Web browsers.
``We are pleased to see today's announcement from Remedy,'' said Dr. Lew Tucker, director of developer relations at Sun Microsystems' JavaSoft division. ``Remedy's implementation of Flashboards on the Web illustrates the power of Java technology in real-world business applications.''
Flashboards is a complementary application to Remedy's flagship application, the Action Request System(R) (AR System), the leading solution for automating internal help desks. Flashboards, with its dynamically updated meters, charts and proactive notification features, offers managers a real-time visual dashboard for monitoring service level agreement performance. Using Flashboards, IT departments can track real-time data and monitor operational trends in order to meet and exceed service level agreements for these processes.
``Remedy was the first help desk company to provide a Web-enabled application for service providers more than two years ago -- a solution that offers end users access to the service information and processes they require,'' said Emma Short, Product Manager at Remedy Corporation. ``By introducing a Java Flashboards client, we are giving both end users and managers an even more powerful way to meet and exceed their service commitments.''
Easier Access and Improved IT Productivity
Flashboards' dynamically generated Web client gives IT organizations a low effort, low cost way to deploy Flashboards across the enterprise -- without encountering daunting platform compatibility issues. Since Web browsers are platform independent, any client machine can access the same Flashboards, simplifying access across the enterprise dramatically.
Availability of Flashboards on the Web also lowers enterprise-wide implementation costs by eliminating the need for installation on each desktop. With the new release end users now can point their browsers to Flashboards on the Web without launching additional applications. The introduction of a Java client also simplifies client compatibility and version control issues by centralizing the administration of Flashboards since updates to the server will simultaneously update the Java clients.
Free Access Flashboard -- No license needed
Version 2.0 also introduces the Free Access Flashboard, entitling organization-wide access to one Flashboard on the Web without the need of a Flashboards' license. The system administrator can designate one Flashboard for open access to everyone across the enterprise, advancing the transfer, availability and sharing of valuable business information.
Pricing and Availability
The new version of Flashboards will be available in October 1997. The price is $16,500 (US List) for the Flashboards server, 5 user licenses, proxy server and Java applet. With the new release, Remedy is also providing the Free Access Flashboard and AR Performance Monitor module (previously only available as an additional module) to monitor the state of AR System servers.
