Re: If its 25% faster why would the average consumer need more than one of these?

Almost no consumers "need" and very few want to pay for an 8800GTX SLI or R600 Crossfire setup. There are still plenty of pitfalls for single card systems.

From a user standpoint I'd worry how reliable will they be in terms of stability and component failure rates, and whether the performance/price ratio will be high enough to compensate for the outrageous power requirements which will have an impact on the PSU and other components.

From an investor standpoint the worries would be:

1) How difficult will it be to manufacture R600 based cards given the power and cooling requirements, along with the 512-bit memory interface. How will yields be on such a high clocked GPU? How much more expensive will the cooling be compared to that of the 8800GTX?

2) Will the power requirements will either mean more delays trying to address the problem? Will yields be high enough to meet demand? Will AMD have to resort to lowered clock rates and lowered performance just to get this thing out the door in reasonable quantities?

3) Will future mainstream cards based on the R600 also use significantly more power than their NVIDIA counterparts? When will those parts be available?
