Undoubtedly there are those who would not vote for woman or minority candidate, but I doubt the number is anywhere near 60%. Whoever the candidate, there is a percentage of the electorate that would never vote for that person for reasons real or imagined. Some Republicans wouldn't vote for a Democrat even if it were Jesus Christ himself on the ballot, and vice versa.

When one drills down with white voters about a black president they hold reservations based on stereotypes... who wants Allen Iverson or Snoop Doggie Dog as president? They just don't know many blacks on the political stages. On the other hand, offer a Colin Powell or Barak Obama and the dynamic changes.

Much the same was said of John Kennedy in 1960, that the nation wasn't ready for a Catholic president. On the other hand, offered a presidential candidate who happened to be Catholic... voters didn't have much of an issue with it. Much the same is present today. Are we looking at Obama as a black candidate or a candidate who happens to be black?

something like 60% of the country would oppose a minority president, or a woman
