Bottomline, Obama has a very small chance of ever being elected, no matter how charismatic he is became of latent or even overt racism deep within the American psyche, and even amongst white liberals. We all have to admit that. Obama knows it too. He saw what happened to Ford and could see himself in the same place.

But if he were to serve as VP for awhile then that might change. Also, the number of voters of color is growing, so eventually it will not be as big an issue.
