Kerry risked his life for his country even though he didn't approve of the war. He went back into enemy fire to save his fellow soldiers. He leaped off his boat into the jungle to kill a rocketeer to save his boat mates. He went on many missions where he could have been killed and took three shards of shrapnel.

If you call that "selfish" you're insane. When he came home he risked everything again to take on Nixon and his henchmen directly. That could have gotten him killed. You can hear Nixon on the Watergate takes saying "destroy the young demogogue before he becomes another JFK". Some of Nixon's henchmen were killers.

Kerry took on the Medillin Cartel, the BCCI Bank used by terrorists, arms dealers and rightwing black ops, then he took on Iran-Contra. Any of these could have gotten him killed. He also took on the Irish mafia in Boston.

Now he wants to take on The Empire Of Oil. That will be his #1 issue. That means he's going after the most powerful special interest on the planet. if you think he has anything personally to gain by that you're nuts. In fact, I fear for his life. Character assassination is nothing compared to a bullet, and the last JFK got two of them in the head.
