And if you start shrinking the middle class in this country, then the "American Dream" is over. The "Great American Experiment" failed.

They aren't really shrinking; rather, their standard of living is getting closer to that of people in the rest of the world. There numbers are likely growing, but you don't get two SUVs and loads of disposable income working at the plant. Working at the plant means your lifestyle starts to head towards the lifestyles of those who work at the plant in the rest of the world (54 hour, 6 day work week, shared accomodation, zero "disposable" income).

I'm not saying that American plant workers will hit those levels anytime soon, but market forces will probably push them in that direction for the foreseeable future. Americans who want to make above average wages will need to do work that the rest of the world can't do as well Americans but for less pay.
