"Working at the plant means your lifestyle starts to head towards the lifestyles of those who work at the plant in the rest of the world (54 hour, 6 day work week, shared accomodation, zero "disposable" income)." Which is a real problem. If that happens, then who is going to buy the Big Macs, much less the cars and the big screen TVs? If you restrict a decent income to only those who have investment income, then the whole global economic machinery grinds to a halt pretty quickly. And then the investment income goes away... Last one out, please turn off the lights.
