Johnson would have to die before the new senate convenes to change anything. There is already a precedent that even gravely ill senators can continue serving. Also remember, Reagan was suffering from Alzheimers his last two years in office. During those years, he was only half there mentally. Of course they kept that secret.

I believe Johnson is up for re-election in 2008. Therefore, expect Daschle to get his old job back. He really deserves it. Bushies got him out by lying and smearing up the wazoo.
