Hi Mike,

"Does anyone else think Dubya is having a total mental breakdown?"

I've been wondering the same thing myself. He looks very defensive -- almost defeated since the Iraq Study Group's report. People Magazine, in their annual year end interview asked an interesting question(not that you'll get the truth):
========
"People's interviewer also mentioned that readers had asked if he takes sleep aids. Bush said generally not, but he does occasionally when he travels.

"'I must tell you, I'm sleeping a lot better than people would assume,' he said."
========

What is interesting is that he thinks that others think that he is having problems sleeping, which tells me that he might be getting a bit paranoid.

About the only near-personal psychological observation I have is that back in '98 I worked in the same smallish building as Bush's political organization. While I never ran into the guy, our receptionist did as she was heading downstairs with the outgoing mail to be placed at the post office which was across the street. What was a bit over the top is that Bush seemed so concerned about this very healthy lady having to walk perhaps 100 yards with a pound or two of mail that he asked one of his sycophants to carry it over for her. While that sounds nice and all, I think it was a bit over the top and says a lot about Bush's need for approval(of course, the secretary was gushing when she got back), by doing one better than anyone else would do even though it was a bit much(note: he did not volunteer to take the mail over himself!).

I imagine that the staff at the Whitehouse is trying to keep him from watching the news. I almost feel sorry for him these days. Of course, they will just tell him that if it weren't for the press his approval ratings would still be in the 70's.

BTW - I just finished reading Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq. If you haven't read it, you might want to. It's just chalk full of quotes and comments and excerpts from various players leading up to and during the present conflict. Really ties it all together quite well, IMO.
