"why not appoint people based on patronage"

One of the most Outrageous things I've read about Iraq is how they picked people to staff offices there after Bremer took over.

Apparently, one of the first things they asked was, "What is the person's Party Registration?" It didn't seem to matter if they had training in the fields they were applying for or language skills or anything else, as long as they were good Republicans.

I think originally the "god thing" was just a political expedient for Bush. He and his handlers saw how well organized and enthusiastic the Evangelicals were when Robertson beat his Dad in Iowa in 1988, so he went to a few Bible Classes and, there ya go, "George the Fundamentalist".

I think after that it sorta went to his head (cause there's a lot a vacancy up there) and he actually got into the "Savior" thing.

I think he's snapping out of it now, cause the JOB story probably ain't his "cup o' tea".
