Craig, I have met his Mom and Dad (when Dad was Veep) at the precinct where I used to vote. Dad is terrific. Mom is a bit of a rhymes with stitch. <G> He comes off as a regular guy who just happens to be rich and political. She comes off as wanting to be queen and is still pissed at the Founding Fathers for taking royalty out of the Constitution.
I don't like Dubya and I absolutely hate his policies, his willful ignorance, and his nearly total disregard for the lessons of history or the Constitution. But his recent behavior has been even more confused and irrational than in the past, and I kind of feel sorry for him. We've always known the job is way beyond his capacity, but he never thought so before. I don't think all the deaths and proof of his incompetence bother him. I think it's the poll numbers. Here is a guy who would have been a nobody, except he had influential connections and people liked him. Now, people don't like him any more. It is true that if he gets folks one on one, his hillbilly charm or whatever it is, wins them over, for the most part. The bad thing is, you can't get 300 million people one on one.
The scary thing is, this is a guy who may make a grandstand play if he really loses it. I've always worried about a psychologically challenged man with his finger on the button. We may have that situation now or soon. |
