And raising the minimum wage sounds like an easier way to achieve about the same thing

Raising the minimum wage would put some low skilled people out of work (or make them work off the books). The effect would be small and hard to notice with a small increase but so would any positive effect.

My point is that rather than helping bottom of the barrel, low end of the wage scale Americans by getting rid of the alleged 15 million illegals, something similar could be accomplished much, much more easily by raising the minimum wage. I'm not saying the minimum wage should be raised, I'm just saying that's a way better idea than the Fowler proposal.

Frankly, I'm amazed at how high the minimum wage is. Isn't it $5.75 in the US? That's $46 per day, or $230 per week, or ~$1,000 per month. Workers here in the UAE start at $200 per month, albeit usually with food and board, for 6 day work weeks. ALL of them would love to work in the US for minimum wage.
