Most lists accept money or advertising from the Physicians. The site that I mentioned did not have any advertising. The doctors on their list are apparently referred to it by some kind of vote of other doctors. I don't know their system. Frankly, the list was not all that helpful to us because our community has only one doctor on it and we already knew him. Our best doctor is quite frank and is not shy about disrecommending doctors he thinks are unsuitable for one reason or another. That doesn't necessarily mean they're bad doctors, but they might have a harsh manner or something like that.
