Hi Mike,
We may have a difference of opinion here as I don't think Bush is the nexus behind many of the bad decisions that have been made. I think he's been artfully manipulated by his VP - Cheney, and I wonder if when he figures this out, if Cheney is going to resign - probably for health reasons? Cheney, in turn, may have put too much trust in Wolfowitz and Feith, who, in turn made a terrific blunder in hanging on to every word of that sleaze-ball from the INC, Chalabi. Chalabi seemed to know every defector from Iraq and was courting them in front of the media and then the administration like a dog and pony show. One of more of these defectors fooled Judith Miller of the NY Times and was the cause of that newspaper having to admit that they were essentially duped in the WMD area:

So basically, I think that Bush was duped and that the republican leadership wanted a electable but dupable candidate. In other words, they put in a nice but weak guy, as a sort of human political shield. So as much as I'd like to direct my frustrations at this administration, I don't think Bush is the right person.
Having said that, you did have a good point in the last paragraph of your previous reply. If Bush connects the dots that he has been badly used he might start making decisions on his own. And in his ensuing state of mind god knows what those decisions might be. |
