Reid's "support" for more troops is really just an involuntary wise political move. It's not something he believes should be happening. Howwever, the situation is so bad anything's worth a try. Also, it keeps democrats from being portrayed as "weak" which is the only conceiveable argument the rightwing has left.

Bottomline here Bush-McCain have joined strategies and they are now going to do this no matter what, even rejecting the Baker-Hamilton suggestions. So might as well "support the troops" and if it fails then McCain may be knocked out of his top spot in the 2008 race and democrats become the moral authority on Iraq again.

Make no mistake, no democrat should be cheering even if we withdraw because Iraq is a serious-serious mess which is going to cost us dearly for a long time no matter what we do. It really is a tragedy. And ironic that we'd actually probably prefer to have Saddam back now than what exists today. At least he kept order. And so what if he killed people? Many more are dying as a result of what Bush did.
