"Walking With Cavemen" was a two hour special I saw recently on the science channel. Anyone truely interested in our evolution should see it.

45 years ago I went into a library in San Louis Obispo, Calif looking for information on my evolution------NOTHING. I could find nothing except writings on the Piltdown Man hoax and the "missing link" (there is no missing link).

So in the walking with cavemen documentary they went back 8 million years and forensic scientists fleshed out human ancestor fossils and then they did some powerful trick photography that showed what those people probably looked like and how they lived.

One of our ancestors lived for a million years, figured out how to make a hand ax and never got beyond that. Neanderthal seems to have been as smart as us but lacked imagination. They were in Europe for 500,000 years but had no tools to speak of until homosapaien got to Europe 60 or 70,000 years ago.

The Neanderthal could copy our tools easily enough however. Anthropologists think that Neanderthal may not have been able to anticipate herd movements like homosapien could.

We need to understand what type of animal we are so we can figure out how to survive civilization. How are we hardwired and how do our minds work? If we are brainwashed at a young age does it stunt our ability to think creatively?

What is the difference between thinking abstractly and thinking concretly? Our ability to have imagination and think abstractly is what seems to have differentiated us from all other species and sub species of hominids.

I am convinced to survive as a species we need to think abstractly more often. We need to practise it. John Steawart, Steven Colbert, Lewis Black, Bill Maher, Al Franken and Keith Olberman should have been Times "Persons of the year" as they are teaching our species to see the truth by thinking abstractly using humor which is the perfect medium..

It is the perfect medium because humor is the juxtaposition of reality. That is also what abstract thinking is, and exactly what the above comedians are teaching our young to do; and WHICH IS WHAT OUR YOUNG MUST LEARN TO DO IF THEY ARE TO SURVIVE.

To understand what makes one man a liberal and his brother a conservative?

There may be hope yet!
