General Commentary Briefing's list of Individual Stock Coverage After much anticipation, Ascend Communications finally announced that they would miss the street's earnings estimate for the third quarter... The company expects to deliver earnings of between $0.18 and $0.20 v. estimates of $0.31 and results of $0.29 in the year ago period... Production troubles, sluggishness in Europe and pricing pressures largely responsible for the shortfall... Though the stock has fallen sharply in anticipation of a bearish announcement, look for additional slippage over the next few days... However, as we detailed in a recent Stock Brief, Ascend's difficulties will prove short-lived as production problems have been resolved and demand for its wide range of products remains healthy... As such Briefing contends that short-term earnings related weakness will provide a good (re)entry point for patient, long-term aggressive growth investors...
