Falling (or crushing) oil prices is the best way to contain Iran. It will also serve a few other critical purposes both for US and Saudis:

a) Will slow down non-Opec/non-Saudi oil development and losing Saudi market share
b) Will make Putin/Russia less aggressive
c) Will make wonders for US economy and domestic politics. Will Have happy masses and middle class (until oil prices go up again!)
d) Will save GM, F and others and will give time to restructure without govt. bailing out.
