AQUILA RESOURCES (V-AQA) $2.42 +0.17 ANDINA MINERALS (V-ADM) $2.60 -0.08 ANATOLIA MINERALS (T-ANO) $4.30 +0.05 Andrew Kaip, the Haywood Mining analyst, has been picking some pretty good stocks lately and one of the first ones he picked for us was Anatolia Minerals and a few days ago, the stock created a bit of a stir.
Kaip has been following and suggesting this story for quite a while because of it’s Copler Gold project in Turkey, it has performed rather well (although there has been ups and downs along with the price of gold). On December 14, the big Broker, RBC Dominion Securities, discovered it and made it a Top Pick. “Boom”…it’s up nicely on over 2 million shares trading.
Kaip recently also picked Aquila Resources, which went on a run from $0.80 to $0.90 to its current $2.38 level. They closed a financing today and then we would expect more drilling results to come out of their Back Forty project in a rather safe locale of Michigan. But, the project now nearest and dearest to Kaip’s heart is Andina Mineral’s Volcan project in once again the relatively safe region of Chile. It’s at relatively high altitudes and it is not too far away from a Bema/Kinross project and it currently has about two million ounces of gold inferred. There is a big difference between inferred and a solid resource number, but that can change.
There are five rigs turning on the project and news should start flowing within a week or two on a massive $10 million drill program and it should start coming up with results shortly. Needless to say, the market will care if they are able to move that two million ounce number closer to four or heck even five! It’s a high altitude-relatively low grade play, but apparently there’s lots of gold in those hills.
When we reach Andina’s President Carl Hansen we ask the ex- TVX mining man, why Andina seems to have such a low profile? After all, the company is only written up by one analyst and I suspect very few people have even heard of it! Hansen admits that, “Yes there is very little retail following and that most of their stock is held by many of the larger,” and he suggests, “more knowledgeable funds out there!” He is trying to change that, though, and get a wider market following! He also points out that through their many mining connections, one shouldn’t be surprised if they come up with some additional projects. We suspect (and we hope now that we are shareholders) that should they get closer to that four or five million ounce barrier, they are able to move that number from inferred to proven…somebody big might just decide that they have to have them…
S&P/TSX VENTURE INDEX: 2821.05 +8.28 While the TSX 300 Index is flirting with new highs lately, this smaller Venture Index is a long, long way away from where it was way back in May.
But between the two Exchanges, I suspect this is the time of year a lot of people do their financing engineering for tax purposes. After all, there is no sense paying that guy one penny more than he deserves.
It’s time to make sure that if there are a couple of situations that haven’t served you well and you are no longer in love with them, why not turf them for at least a little bit of a tax advantage.
The last day for tax-loss selling in Canada is December 22nd. In the States, they don’t take a vacation on the day after Christmas, they make people go to work and that day, December 26th is that last day for tax-loss selling south of the border. |
