Given circumstances in Iraq [and the region] such outcomes seem likely.

I just have a different take on the whole thing.. I say we have to do everything possible to prevent it. Of course, in the end it may not work. But it certainly won't resolve itself "peacefully" if we just remain observers.

Besides, we have strategic interests in preventing regional conflict between Shi'a and Sunnis in the region.

But if the global economy weren't so addicted to fossil fuels, then I might be more inclined to let them fight it out amongst themselves (but not to the extent of genocide).
