Illumina Says GSK Adds to Genotype Deal Tuesday December 19, 9:04 am ET Illumina Says GlaxoSmithKline to Purchase Genotyping Technology, Expands Work Agreement SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Illumina Inc., which makes gene-variation testing equipment, on Tuesday said GlaxoSmithKline agreed to buy 1,000 of its HumanHap550 BeadChips in what the company called a multimillion dollar deal. The BeadChips are used for determining the genetic makeup of disease samples. Illumina said they will be operated at an undisclosed third-party facility. Under the agreement, GlaxoSmithKline will also use Illumina's Fast-Track Genotyping Service to process about 4,000 disease samples for pharmacogenetics applications. GlaxoSmithKline recently expanded the scope of a multiyear genotyping agreement with Illumina, the company said.
