A discussion of sacrifice....now, so late in the current process..will be much more poorly received than had such a request (no matter how defined) been made back in 2001 or even in 2003...

Now people will insist that "sacrifice" have a face, a more specific objective and a more open and involved process of creation, debate and follow-through.

If the Democrats do focus their first congressional hearings on contractor abuse and incompetence, war profiteering, etc...as I suspect will happen, any revelations of problems will make calls for "sacrifice" more difficult until the current abuses are cleaned up. (if they exist).
