Not to go OT too much here, but to answer this concern, I will say this:
The resurrection of Jesus was an historical fact. Paul himself says that if that did not really happen, then all Christianity falls apart, and so does the little library of 66 books and letters called the Bible (1 Corinthians 15:13-19). So, there would be plenty to worry about if He did not do so. However, it did happen. The proofs exist. The event was predicted by the Old Testament. This provides a harmony of it to the New Testament and shows divine oversight of the writings. Next, all the authors of the NT are eyewitnesses of the resurrection. Many of them saw Him taken into heaven to be seated at God's right hand. Many of them died willingly proclaiming it. None of them raised a sword to defend themselves from martyrdom nor incited an uprising to prevent it or avenge it.
Further, His resurrection proves His divinity. Since I have met Him as living person and have had the same effects that the eyewitnesses said would happen to those who believe in Him, I can confirm it personally. In short, it is possible to prove the claim Christianity makes. But the requirement of repentance is too much for most to consider, for you must die to your life as you know it and embrace a new one with new affections, new goals, new manners of life that come from the power of the indwelling Spirit of God.
I will agree with anyone that if Christianity is, in fact, only a myth or based upon the unverified, no matter how many people believe it, it should be abandoned by all and not spread about as a means of eternal life.
So, I am not concerned with any difficulty in comparing Egyptian or Islamic myths with Christianity. Let the Egyptians or Muslims bring forth their predictions and eyewitnesses of the major claims of their gods and let's see what's what. |
