During hurricane Charlie in 2004 and a year later with Wilma in 2005 I was without power for 10-14 days each time. I keep my wine in styrofoam shipper packs under my bar area (no elaborate storage for me) and the extended heat did not bother anything. Wine is not nearly as fragile as advertised...the better to sell all the temp controlled units, etc. If you are buying Chateau Margaux or something I suppose it would be worth it but I have several $100 plus bottles aging in their little styrofoam vault and haven't killed one yet. I am unable to spend Christmas with family this year due to work constraints so I'll probably open a nice Viognier to go with a shrimp dish I plan on cooking. Happy holidays to you and all here.
