There's always bad weather somewhere in the country at this time of year. It's winter.

The extra shopping day means that comparable store sales will be up around 25% this week for a retailer who has a flat trend. Retailers with decent growth momentum will probably do 30% to 35% comps.

I don't think these are the kinds of numbers that people expect. Comparing one of the biggest shopping days in history to a prior year of zero is big.

I'm surprised that the retail surveys weren't showing negative comps coming into this week. I think this shopping season is stronger than most think. If I'm wrong, I'll write off the calls and live to fight another day.
